Protective gear matters. Choosing the right protection matters just as much. In radiation-related environments, different protective products are designed to cover different areas of the body.
That is especially important around medical fluoroscopy and other X-ray procedures. Radiation safety glasses protect the eyes, while radiation face masks provide a much larger area of coverage. They are not interchangeable pieces of PPE.
Why Do Your Eyes and Face Need Different Protection?
The eyes are particularly important to protect from scatter radiation, but eye protection alone does not cover the rest of the face. That is where a radiation face mask can provide additional coverage.
At Attenutech, we offer both options because they serve different purposes. Our lead glasses are designed for direct eye protection. Our radiation face masks extend protection across a much larger facial area.
Think of it as the difference between wearing protective eyewear and adding a protective shield. One doesn’t automatically replace the other.
How Do Lead Glasses Protect the Eyes?
Lead glasses are specifically designed to protect the eyes from radiation exposure.
Our radiation safety eyewear uses specialized radiation-protective lenses. Attenutech’s lead glasses include options with 0.75 mm lead equivalency, along with models offering additional lateral protection through leaded side shields.
We also offer prescription options, so users who need corrective lenses don’t have to choose between clear vision and radiation protection.
That makes lead glasses especially useful for professionals who need eye protection while maintaining visual clarity during procedures.
What Does a Radiation Face Mask Protect?
A radiation face mask provides broader facial coverage than radiation glasses.
Our masks use a lead-impregnated acrylic shield and adjustable headpiece. We offer two styles: panoramic and full-face. Both are listed with 0.12 mm lead equivalency.
The full-face style extends coverage across more of the face and around the sides of the head. The panoramic style provides a wide field of protection while maintaining visibility.
Most importantly, these masks can be worn in tandem with lead glasses. That gives the user broader coverage instead of treating the products as substitutes.
So, Which One Should You Use?
It depends on the area that needs protection and the requirements of the work environment.
- Need dedicated eye protection? Lead glasses are designed for that purpose.
- Need broader facial coverage? A radiation face mask provides a larger protective area.
- Need both? Our face masks can be worn with lead glasses for expanded coverage.
The appropriate PPE should always follow your facility’s radiation-safety program and applicable requirements.
How Can Attenutech Help With Radiation Protection?
We focus on radiation protection for high-risk surgical and interventional environments.
Our products undergo testing and certification processes, and our products are CE certified according to our site.
We also offer different eyewear styles, prescription options, side-shield configurations, and face-mask designs.
Protection should be purposeful, not one-size-fits-all. We help make it easier to identify the equipment that fits the job and the level of coverage required.
